Jump To SectionTop Tips for Successful Measurement
Correct Usage
Ensure that the flat end of the device is pressed onto the skin so the device maintains full contact with the belly. This should allow you to locate a clear audio signal.
Successful Measurement
To be sure a reading has been successfully sent to your care provider, listen for your Tenovi Gateway to beep at least once while using the device. The Gateway will continue to beep after each successful measurement up to 24 times. After the 24th successful measurement, the Gateway will beep 3 additional times and will no longer transmit data. To continue to transmit data, turn the device off and back on to begin a new session.
Adequate amount of Ultrasound Gel
Before you begin, cover the flat end of the device with a thin layer of the provided ultrasound gel.
Setup & Use Steps
Power Gateway
Step 1: Set up your Gateway by plugging it in. It will flash purple as it connects and then settle to a solid red color when it is connected.
Install Batteries and Setup
Step 2. Install batteries and remove the protective film from the flat end of the device. Turn on the device by holding down the power button for three seconds. Volume can be adjusted on the side.
Position your Body
Step 3. Lay back in a comfortable position on your bed with pillows behind your back. Cover the flat end of the device with a thin layer of Gel.
Place the Device on your Belly
Step 4. Press the flat end of the device on the skin on the blue dot in the diagram. Apply enough pressure so the device maintains full contact with the belly.
Finding the Baby's Heart
Step 5. Babies change positions. Adjust the angle until you hear the baby’s heartbeat. If you aren’t getting a good signal, move to the next dot on the diagram repeating the same hand motion until you hear the heartbeat loud and clear for a minimum of 6 seconds.
When Taking a Measurement
Before You Measure
Proper usage is critical to receive usable data for your care provider. That’s why it’s important to follow a few simple steps to get the most accurate results.
- Remove the protective film from the flat end of the device.
- Lay back in a comfortable position on your bed with pillows behind your back.
- Cover the flat end of the device with a thin layer of ultrasound gel.
Using your Tenovi Fetal Doppler
- Follow the instructions on the Quick Start Guide to know where to place the device.
- Adjust the angle until you hear the baby’s heartbeat.
- After getting a clear audio signal, the baby’s heartrate will be transmitted to the Gateway and sent to your provider
Best Practices
How to Find the Baby's Heart?
- Since the baby often changes position, you must search slowly. Start at one location and use a gentle rocking motion to adjust the angle of the probe until you hear a clear heartbeat. If the signal is poor, move the probe slightly to the next marked spot on the diagram and repeat the slow, rocking angle adjustment until you hear the heartbeat clearly for at least six seconds.
Proper Usage Tips
- Rock, Don’t Drag: Instead of quickly sliding the probe, focus on slowly tilting or rocking the angle of the probe in one spot before moving it slightly. A tiny change in angle can make the difference between silence and a clear sound.
- Listen for Galloping: The fetal heartbeat is extremely fast (typically 120–160 beats per minute) and often sounds like a galloping horse. Your own pulse (which you may hear as a slower “whoosh”) is much slower and should not be mistaken for the baby’s.
- Don’t Panic If You Can’t Hear It: It is common and normal to have difficulty finding the heartbeat, even with a healthy baby, due to position, maternal body composition, or the stage of pregnancy. If you cannot find the heartbeat within a couple of minutes, stop and try again later.
Error Codes
This device does not display any error codes.
- If the screen does not turn on after holding down the power button for at least 5 seconds, ensure the batteries are inserted correctly. If the problem persists, replace the batteries and try again.
Device Specifics
Pairing and Bonding
The Tenovi Fetal Doppler will connect automatically out of the box during the measurement. There are no additional steps needed for the fetal doppler to send measurements to your Tenovi Gateway.
Screen Modes
There are two modes to visualize heart rate on the device. The default screen shows large numbers in real time. The second mode shows a plot of heart rates. To switch screens, press the power button while the device is on.
Storage Events
The Tenovi Fetal Doppler does not store any historical measurements. This means if you’re on vacation and not near the Gateway, the Tenovi Fetal Doppler will not save any measurements. If you take readings while away from the Gateway, none will be sent to the Gateway. You are not able to cycle through previous measurements on the device itself.
Maintenance
- Gel must be wiped off from the transducer after use. These precautions will prolong the life of the unit.
- To ensure the product is always functional when required, the following maintenance should be performed:
- Visual Inspection
- Clean the product and its accessories
- Check the battery fuel gauge
- Test product performance
- Remove the battery if it is not used for a long time
Cleaning Instructions
- Before cleaning the product, turn off the product, remove all adherent soil (tissue, fluids, etc.) and wipe thoroughly with a cloth dampened with water before applying the cleaning solution.
- When cleaning, do not immerse in any liquid.
- Keep the exterior surface of the device clean and free of dust and dirt. Clean exterior surface of the unit with a dry, soft cloth. If necessary, clean it with a soft cloth soaked in a solution of soap and wipe dry with a clean cloth immediately after.

- Clean with soap only.
Device Reissue
If this is a replacement device please visit the Tenovi Web App for further assistance.
The Tenovi Fetal Doppler is compatible with Gateway firmware 2.198.43 and later. Using a Gateway with an earlier firmware version may cause connectivity problems.
Order Supplies
If you are in need of more supplies for your glucometer, please enter your Gateway ID below. You can find your Gateway ID on the back of your Gateway where the power cord is connected.
Gateway Basics
Getting Started
- 1. Connect the Gateway power cord to an electrical outlet.
- 2. Plug the Gateway power cord into the Gateway
- 3. The Gateway LED will first flash PURPLE for up to 10 minutes.
This means that the Gateway is trying to connect to a cell tower. Once connected to a cellular network, the Gateway will turn RED. If it goes RED and back to PURPLE , it’s looking for the strongest signal. The Gateway will go from PURPLE to BLUE if it can’t find a signal.
Taking A Measurement
- 1. Take a measurement with the Tenovi device(s) included with the Gateway.
- 2. When the Gateway is RED it’s ready for you to take your daily measurement. The Gateway LED will turn YELLOW while a measurement is being taken, and will flash GREEN when the measurement has been successfully transmitted.
- 3. The LED will remain GREEN for the remainder of the day, however you can take as many additional readings as necessary and all readings will transmit.
- 4. The LED will revert back to RED everyday at midnight, acting as a reminder to take a reading every day.

Steps to Whitelist Device
- Prepare the Environment: Ensure that the only device near the Gateway is the one you want to add to the whitelist. All other devices should be at least 3 feet away. Plug the power cable into the Gateway.
- Position the Device: Place the device you want to whitelist as close as possible to the Gateway.
- Activate Whitelist Mode: Press and hold down the button on the Gateway until you see a pulsing white light.
- Take a Measurement: Use the device to take a measurement. Once the Gateway connects to the device, the pulsing white light will stop. You will see the normal connection sequence, and when it is done, a white light will appear near the top of the LED ring.
- Verify Whitelisting: Ensure that the LED ring displays a white section at the top, indicating a successful whitelisting attempt.
- Repeat these steps for each device you need to whitelist. If you need to remove a device from the whitelist, disconnect the Gateway from power, press and hold the center button while reconnecting to power, wait for a beep and flash, then release the button.
