How It Works

Setup Steps

Order Supplies

If you are in need of more supplies for your glucometer, please enter your Gateway ID below. You can find your Gateway ID on the back of your Gateway where the power cord is connected.

When Taking a Measurement

Before You Measure

  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water to increase circulation. Dry thoroughly, as residual moisture can skew results.
  • Don’t squeeze too hard as excessive squeezing can dilute your sample with interstitial fluid, which may affect accuracy.
  • Consistency matters when tracking trends. Try to test at the same time each day and use the same general area, such as the sides of your fingertips.

Taking Your Glucose Reading

  • Lancets can dull quickly. Replace your lancet at each use.
  • Cold hands can restrict blood flow to your fingertips. If you have trouble getting enough blood on the test strip, try warming up your hands before washing them.
  • Ideal fasting blood glucose levels for most adults are 80–130 mg/dL before meals, and under 180 mg/dL after meals (2 hours).
  • Always store strips in a dry place and close the vial immediately after use.
  • If your results seem off, test with the manufacturer’s control solution to verify the device is working properly.

Error Codes

Error Code
Description
Solution

Error 1

A used Test strip was inserted.

Repeat test with new strip

Error 2

Blood or test solution was applied before the test symbol appeared.

Repeat the measurement with a new test strip and wait until the icon appears before applying the blood sample or control solution.

Error 3

Blood sample was an insufficient volume.

This error occurs when the device is either too hot or too cold.

If too cold, putting device in pocket for 5 minutes will usually warm it up enough, if the device is too hot, have patient place device in refrigerator for a few minutes, this will usually solve the error issue.

Error 4

Blood sample was an insufficient volume.

Ask the patient to gently massage their finger from the base toward the tip to encourage more blood flow. If needed, use a new lancet on a different finger.

You can also increase the depth setting on the lancet device (1 is the shallowest, 5 is the deepest) to get a better sample.

Error 5

This error may appear when other testing strips are used.

This means the wrong blood glucose test strip was used or it the test strip is damaged. Repeat the test with a Tenovi test strip.

Error 6

This means the device is unable to take a reading properly with the sample provided.

This can occur if something other than blood or test solution is used to take a reading -or- there is a malfunction with the device and it is a hardware issue with the sensor.

In case of the latter and error keeps appearing, replace device.

Error 7

There is a Bluetooth communication problem.

Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

If no Bluetooth symbol appears on the screen (near top center) after removing a test strip, follow these steps:

With the device OFF, press and hold the DOWN ARROW button on the left side of the device.

This will bring up the Bluetooth screen and should turn it on by default.

Press the POWER button on the right side of the device to re-sync to the gateway.

If this doesn't work, remove batteries, and put back in - this should bring up the SET screen if you press and hold the DOWN ARROW.

Select YES, tap POWER, then on the Bluetooth screen make sure it says ON, tap power.

This will bring up the YEAR setting. Nothing needs to be set here, as it will be set by the gateway when it connects again, so press and hold POWER until the device shuts off.

Repeat the holding DOWN arrow to pair/sync. If this process fails, replace device.

Error 8

Hardware error

This is an internal hardware issue that most likely will not be resolved.

Standard procedure with repeated Error 8 codes is to replace the device.

Device Specifics

Pairing and Bonding

  • Tenovi Blood Glucose Monitors come pre-bonded to the Tenovi Gateway. In some rare circumstances where the glucometer is separated from the bonded Gateway, the glucometer must be bonded again. To bond a glucometer to a Gateway, follow these steps.
  • Be sure the device is powered off.
  • Plug in Gateway and wait for it to turn red.
  • Hold down the down button of the glucometer on the left hand side until you see the text “BT” and the word “yes” flashing.
  • Press the button on the right side of the glucometer.
  • Wait for the word “pair” to appear in the bottom left and press the button on the right side again.
  • Take a measurement and confirm that the Gateway changes to green and the data is received.

Please note that one glucometer can be used on a Gateway at a given time.

Storage Events

  • Tenovi Blood Glucose Meter will store all readings the device has ever taken.
  • When the glucometer is offloading large amounts of readings, it may be necessary to take a reading (test solution is fine) to engage the glucometer to offload data. Continue to use the glucometer as normal and the readings will offload with normal usage.
  • The Tenovi Blood Glucose Meter is compatible with Gateway firmware 1.4.66 and later. Using a Gateway with an earlier firmware version may cause connectivity problems.

Maintenance

  • Clean the meter regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using alcohol or any abrasive cleaners on the meter.
  • Store the meter and test strips in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures or humidity, as this can affect their accuracy.
  • Use only the test strips designed for your specific meter model. Ensure they are not expired and are stored properly to avoid contamination.
  • DO NOT spray liquid directly on the oximeter.

Device Reissue

  • Blood Glucose Meters cannot be reissued as they come into contact with bodily fluids or medication.

Gateway Basics

Getting Started

This means that the Gateway is trying to connect to a cell tower. Once connected to a cellular network, the Gateway will turn RED. If it goes RED and back to PURPLE , it’s looking for the strongest signal. The Gateway will go from PURPLE to BLUE if it can’t find a signal.
