When Taking a Measurement
Before You Take Your Medication
The Tenovi Pillbox looks and works like a regular 7-day pillbox with morning and evening sections. But inside, it has sensors that track compartment opening or refilling events. When a compartment is opened, the pillbox sends a signal through the Cellular Gateway so care teams know that a patient is on track with their medication schedule.
The Gateway and pillbox compartment also light up red to remind a patient to take their medication. The Gateway turns green once the medication event was recorded and transmitted to their clinician.
Taking Your Medication
- Take medicines with activities that are part of your everyday routine, such as feeding your pet or brushing your teeth.
- Put the Tenovi Smart Pillbox and Gateway near the area where your activity takes place. The red light on the Gateway serves as a reminder to take your medication.
- The Pillbox illuminates the container corresponding to the current day and time, providing a visual cue for added convenience. Each compartment is equipped with sensors that record “open events,” capturing detailed data such as the specific container opened and the exact time of the event.
- Refilling is straightforward. Simply press the “Press Before Refill” button before restocking their pillbox, ensuring accurate categorization of refill activities. The Tenovi Pillbox securely stores all event data locally (up to 50 events), transmitting it to the Tenovi Gateway when within a 30-foot range and in an active state. The Gateway then uses its cellular modem to send the data to Tenovi’s servers, providing reliable, real-time insights to support effective remote therapeutic monitoring.

Device Specifics
Pairing and Bonding
If you need to connect your Pillbox to a different Gateway:
- The pillbox comes automatically paired to the Gateway. When that strip is removed, the pillbox should automatically pair.
- The Gateway can be paired if needed by taking the batteries out and putting them back. Then press any button and the Pillbox connects to a Gateway.
Refilling
- To refill, press the top button to enter “refill mode.”
- You’ll see all the lights slowly blinking. That means it’s ready to be filled.
- Open each compartment and add your medications while the lights are blinking.
- When you’re done, press the top button again to exit refill mode.
Refill mode will also end on its own after 20 minutes if you forget.
Storage Events
- Use your Pillbox just like a regular 7-day organizer.
- Open a compartment when it’s time to take your medication.
- Each time you open a compartment, the Pillbox will automatically send that info to the Gateway, when within a 30-foot range of an active Gateway.
- It can remember up to 50 opens so you don’t have to worry if you’re away from the Gateway for a bit.
Maintenance
Handle the pillbox carefully, avoiding forceful opening of the compartments. Store medications and the pillbox in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.
Device Reissue
- Press the reset button on the bottom of the Pillbox.
- The lights will spin twice to show it’s ready to pair with the new Gateway.
- The Tenovi Smart Pillbox is compatible with firmware 2.170.38 and later. Using a Gateway with an earlier firmware version may cause connectivity problems.
Gateway Basics
Getting Started
- 1. Connect the Gateway power cord to an electrical outlet.
- 2. Plug the Gateway power cord into the Gateway
- 3. The Gateway LED will first flash PURPLE for up to 10 minutes.
This means that the Gateway is trying to connect to a cell tower. Once connected to a cellular network, the Gateway will turn RED. If it goes RED and back to PURPLE , it’s looking for the strongest signal. The Gateway will go from PURPLE to BLUE if it can’t find a signal.
Taking A Measurement
- 1. Take a measurement with the Tenovi device(s) included with the Gateway.
- 2. When the Gateway is RED it’s ready for you to take your daily measurement. The Gateway LED will turn YELLOW while a measurement is being taken, and will flash GREEN when the measurement has been successfully transmitted.
- 3. The LED will remain GREEN for the remainder of the day, however you can take as many additional readings as necessary and all readings will transmit.
- 4. The LED will revert back to RED everyday at midnight, acting as a reminder to take a reading every day.

Steps to Whitelist Device
- Prepare the Environment: Ensure that the only device near the Gateway is the one you want to add to the whitelist. All other devices should be at least 3 feet away. Plug the power cable into the Gateway.
- Position the Device: Place the device you want to whitelist as close as possible to the Gateway.
- Activate Whitelist Mode: Press and hold down the button on the Gateway until you see a pulsing white light.
- Take a Measurement: Use the device to take a measurement. Once the Gateway connects to the device, the pulsing white light will stop. You will see the normal connection sequence, and when it is done, a white light will appear near the top of the LED ring.
- Verify Whitelisting: Ensure that the LED ring displays a white section at the top, indicating a successful whitelisting attempt.
- Repeat these steps for each device you need to whitelist. If you need to remove a device from the whitelist, disconnect the Gateway from power, press and hold the center button while reconnecting to power, wait for a beep and flash, then release the button.
